St Andrews

Where golf was born over 600 years ago. This ancient university town on Scotland's east coast is where tradition meets youthful energy.

The Home of Golf

St Andrews Links is the “Home of Golf,” where the sport has been played since the 15th century. The Old Course, with its iconic Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker, is the most famous golf course in the world. Playing here is a pilgrimage for golfers everywhere.

Scotland's Oldest University

Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is the third-oldest in the English-speaking world. Prince William and Catherine Middleton met here. The university's medieval buildings give the town a distinctive character, and its student population ensures a vibrant social scene year-round.

Coastal Beauty

The town sits on a dramatic stretch of coastline. West Sands beach stretches for two miles — the opening scene of Chariots of Fire was filmed here. The ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, once the largest church in Scotland, overlook the sea. The medieval castle sits atop cliffs battered by waves.
